General ideas and Feedback for Codealike

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Allow more fine-grained control of web monitoring

Currently it's possible to make the Chrome plugin send usage data only when explicitly asked to, and I can clear the local data before my development session, so I can keep the context to actual development time.

However, it would be more useful to allow me to remove specific sites before sending data, so it becomes less of an all-or-nothing issue.

Additionally, the Chrome plugin should have a non-monitoring mode, ideally indicated by graying out its icon. Hell, I'd be willing to take a stab at implementing this myself, once there's an official API. ;-)

  2. Written analisis of habits and activity notables.

Would like to see a written (verbal) analysis of my habits.
    Example:
You are most active 8:00-13:00.....You seem encounter the most interruptions between 13:00 and 14:00...... You have accumulated 20 hrs using SQL this year

  4. Integration with StatsWing

Integration with StatsWing for analysis of raw data. You may be able to iframe specific views and analysis.. or at the very least, provide a direct export to StatsWing so people can analyze the data themselves.

Also, using aggregate data from codealike you guys can use StatsWing to help find more relationships between the data poitns that you may not have thought of yet.

  7. No registration email, yet password recovery needs one

Registration needs email, so it can be entered when you want to recover your password. Because at this point it is Catch-22.

  8. Eclipse CodeAlike Perspective

A hole new codealike perspective for Eclipse. All the metrics inside the IDE, with nice graphics and fully integrated metrics with the project explorer. For example, I click on the StupidTest.java file and CodeAlike visualized all the metrics relevant for that file. Another great idea is not wasting time / money with MacOS X users and XCode / Sublime / IntelliJ / other minorated environments. Spend that time / efforts improving the plugin for Eclipse / Visual Studio.

  11. Add Testing to Activities

The Activity statistics show the time spend Coding / Debugging / Building.

It would be really interesting to know which time from Coding is spent writing Tests. During a TDD session I could measure how much of my time is spend on productive code and how much on writing test.

I could think of different ways to implement this. One way would require knowlede about the TestFramework itself. For instance a Microsoft test is decorated with a [TestClass] attribut.
Another way would be to have a convention that every project that is named "Projectname.Tests" would be treated as a Test…

This feature is already in the backlog. The priority is “new feature”. Stability and performance always take precedence against “new feature” but we are certainly investigating how to accomplish that in a way that support both Visual Studio and Eclipse with the many test frameworks out there.

  12. Community Activity Meter

Would love to see community stats displayed. Like an "On-Fire-Meter" but showing how many people are on fire for that day, how much coding time has been recorded for the community as a whole and the number of active coders tracked in the day (community size) would rock as well.......

    Thanks
    Jeff

  13. Label .glsl files in the facts view as OpenGL Shaders

While I may be one of the only person doing game development in Java with Codealike installed, I would like to see an appropriate label for .glsl files in the facts panel. Additionally, it is worth noting that it's not a formal standard by any means, and some people choose to use .vert and .frag for shader extensions.

Would love to have a text based report outlining the contents of this page. Pictures are great but the styles just don't print well enough.
