General ideas and Feedback for Codealike

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Hi there! Right now exist a category named “Others”. Can you send us your profile link so we can categorize any technology you’re using but we didn’t named yet?

  4. Implement time tracking

For certain projects/tasks we need to report time spent to our clients. It would be great if codealike could track time spent on tasks.

  5. Create a dashboard page that compares network averages

I'd be interested to see my averages for a project by Lang (for example C#, Razor, and JS) and mode (Coding/Debugging) then compares it to other projects. My projects as well as the Codealike network. I'd be interested in seeing how my development stats compare to other developers on similar projects of comparable size.

  6. Tag Time

I should have the ability to start or stop a tag. All activities within that window could be filtered by that tag. The tag itself can span periods currently not tracked by codealike. For instance I could start a new tag called "issue #6516", then I could start an existing tag "reviewing with tester", and I could start another tag "Tammy". When I review I could look at time spent coding total, time spent coding for #6516, time spent debugging with "review with tester", or time spent marked "Tammy". This would allow us to use codealike to track development time…

  7. implement real-time collaberation

I saw a FAQ entry explaining that it was "planned". I think this is a more important feature than you realize. A real-time collaboration system that plays nice with source-control.

  8. Amazon Cloud9 web based IDE integration

I know chrome extension keeps track of browsing time and debugging time. But there are tools that I use online that may count toward developing and or debugging.

  9. Detect: Your Technology Usage based on Project type

Currently codealike does not detect if you are working in a XNA project.
I personally think it could be cool if that was detected, so instead of only saying "C#", it would say "C# / XNA".

  13. IntelliJ: Option to disable "Sending data" notification

In IntelliJ, every time Codealike uploads data to the server, a toast notification appears. I find this to be quite annoying, and it doesn't seem to provide much value except when debugging. An option to disable this would be great. Thanks!

  15. Please allow the attachment and document to a project (like a spec) and then a Windows app/service/Office addin

Please allow the attachment of a document to a project (like a spec) and then a Windows app/service/Office addin to monitor time spent in the document (actively hopefully but unless this is an add-in, this is tough but can be done through native code.

This would enable users to include all of their work to the project that is non-coding.

    Thank you !

  16. Add team members who aren't yet Codealike members

As a team owner, I should be able to add team members who are not yet Codealike members. They can register with Codealike as part of the team invitation response process.

  17. Define productive websites

You should have "productivity" websites(stackoverflow, msdn.com, github.com, etc.), so when I browse them, you will still count it as productive time, so the red/green circle won't go away and I will be closer to being on fire.
A better solution would be to let the user define the websites. For example, maybe I'm working on Facebook and I'm testing the website :)

  18. Make the API more available

Make your API more available. I would like to implement in my Windows Phone app the possibility to see how much time you have until you're on fire. For this I would need an API endpoint which I can make GET requests every minute or so and display the results to the user.

We dont have many endpoints, but there is no reason why we cannot implement them.

For apps developer: If you need a particular data endpoint, just tell us about it and we will work with you to make it happen.

  19. Make login pop-up window not "always on top"

When I open a solution in Visual Studio and Codealike is still not logged in, it opens the login screen, which is set up to be top-most ("always on top" of other windows). Since I manage my passwords in another application, I need to switch between windows to retrieve the password; but, more than that, I NEED to remember that Codealike will be top-most and get the password BEFORE clicking "Sign in", because:

    - When I click "Sign in", it opens ANOTHER top-most modal window, which is the only one I can move away now, and it doesn't help so…

  20. Expose an API

An API that would allow dev leads to develop custom logic based on some of the data/triggers you're already tracking. For example, I'd love to show a tooltip type of popup for the user who is looking at a method that uses MailMessage class to let them know the list of relevant issues in our issue management system that they should look at before rolling out their own emailer service.... If it is an API hosted on your servers (as opposed to a locally-hosted api that runs with visual studio), then we could also do a million things by integrating…
